Overview

ImageThe purpose of this program is to introduce the novice to all aspects of sweep rowing in crews of eight. This includes learning parts of the oars and boat, proper handling of same, basic rowing and ergometer (rowing machine) technique, and racing starts. Racing on a 1-2km course may take place, weather and experience permitting. Water safety fundamentals are reviewed in a safety video.

Fees

Cost of the program is $50.00. Applicants will be directed to bring their application forms and cheques or monies (in the exact amount) to the Ben Avery Lobby on campus.** This fee covers insurance and membership with the Sudbury Rowing Club (SRC) and Canadian Rowing Association. (CRA) Students will not be allowed on the water until fee is paid in full.

Registration Dates

Registration takes place over three days in early September.**  Contact the Club's President to express your intention to participate. Registration is limited, and applications are processed on a first come, first served basis.

Dry land Session

September: at the Sudbury Rowing Club. See Contact Us for boathouse location.

On Water Sessions

Students will row three days a week per session, weather permitting.

Regattas

This program ends with a regatta on Lake Ramsey. Start time is 4pm. A pizza social and medal presentation is held immediately afterward. Details to follow.**

Head of the Trent

Participation in the Head of the Trent Regatta is optional. Additional fees are incurred, as traveling to Peterborough and overnight accommodations are involved. Those interested in competing will be required to complete a 6km ergometer test and train for the 4.7km race throughout the week commencing late September.

Spares

Every student must organize their own spares for practice(s) or race day. A spare must be a current Laurentian University rowing program participant or a Sudbury Rowing Club member.
