Overview

ImageThe High School Learn to Row (LTR) program is open to those students in grades 9 - 12 who attend any of the seven participating Greater Sudbury high schools. The Sudbury Rowing Club's (SRC's) recently increased fleet of eights enables each high school the opportunity to fill more than one crew. 500m heats, to determine seeding for the 1000m finalists for the regatta will be used again this year. LTR sessions take place over a two day period and are broken down into two parts: dryland and on-water.

Fees

The fee per rower is $70.00. This fee covers insurance costs and membership with the SRC and the Canadian Rowing Association. Completed Learn to Row application forms (downloadable from this site or you can get from your coach) and total fees  are due one week before the LTR begins. For insurance reasons, no one is allowed on the water until monies and registration forms have been submitted.

Ergometers (Rowing Machines)

Each participating high school will be loaned, free of charge, one of the SRC ergs for the month of April, up to and including the Learn to Row (LTR) in May. The ergs are then returned to the boathouse to be used at Learn to Row sessions.

Dry land sessions

Dryland sessions will take place on May 6th at the SRC boathouse on Elizabeth St. from 4:00 - 6:00pm. Novice rowers (those who have not done a LTR before) MUST attend. This session covers the basics of rowing including safety, anatomy of the boat, and rowing technique.

On water sessions

The on-water sessions takes place the morning after the dry land training on Saturday May 7th . ALL schools will be required to attend one of the two on-water teaching sessions. The first session is scheduled from 8:00 - 9:30am with the second session running from 9:30 - 11:00am. Participants will wear a "fanny pack" type flotation device on their waists during the on-water instruction.

Regular training will commence on May 9th and end on June 10th . Students are encouraged to invite family members to stay and watch practices and/or take pictures for submission to the Club's website.
