Overview

ImageTouring involves rowing over greater distances than what is typically offered at your rowing club. Participants can choose to sign up for sculling excursions that last as little as half a day or as long as one week. All participants on a tour should have previous sculling experience, know how to swim, and be fit enough to row longer distances. You must be agile enough to handle stepping in and out of boats from rough terrain.

Categories

Leisure Tours: usually last a half to a full day, rowing on a scenic river or lake.

Adventure Tours: usually take place on weekends, and can involve sculling over 40km a day.

Vacation Tours: usually week long tours that take place in various countries around the world.

Booking Etiquette

Register early and provide your deposit promptly. If you have to cancel your booking, do so as soon as possible so that organizers will have time to fill your position. (Attempt to provide a replacement before contacting organizers.) Last minute cancellations are costly and very disruptive.

Costs

Costs will vary depending on the length and location of the Tour. Contact the tour organizer for specifics, and be prepared to add incidental costs like traveling expenses, meals, and hotel accommodations. As an example: SRC’s weekend Blackfly Tour is in the $230 - $250.00 range. Costs vary year to year.

SRC’s Blackfly Tour

Several SRC members had their first taste of touring along the Rideau Canal in September 2002. It was such a positive experience for Donna Speigel that she wanted to introduce it to other club members. What better venue than the clean waters and breathtaking scenery that Northern Ontario lakes and rivers are known for? Thus the first annual Blackfly rowing Tour was born in June 2003. The first three years saw the event take place along the French and Pickerel Rivers. The last two years have taken place on Trout Lake, near Noelville. (a part of the French River District) Want to experience a relaxing weekend exploring a beautiful section of your own province? Come explore with us!
